Proto-Kaw Video Interview Musicians: Lynn Meredith – vocals, narration John Bolton – flute, saxophones Kerry Livgren – guitars, keybords, back vocals Dan Wright – organ, keyboards, back vocals Craig Kew – bass, back vocals Brad Schulz - drums Info: They had a dream, not unlike many young musicians. They dreamt of performing music that broke the rules, or at least turned them upside down and inside out. Music with a passion, a complexity, a richness. Music filled with surprises. And they did it for a brief time, from 1971 to 1973, as a band called “KANSAS”. Several years later, songwriter/guitarist Kerry Livgren joined another band, and kept the “Kansas” name alive. The rest is history, as they say. In 2003 they decided to make one more go —30 years later. Kerry Livgren also returned to his role as songwriter, using five original, unrecorded songs, and composing 5 new ones. The extraordinary music, perhaps best described as “progressive jazz psychedelia,” is definitely the band’s original style, forged with 30 years of expectation. The dream deferred long ago has come to life in the CD “Before Became After.  "This band doesn't sound like any band that I can think of," Livgren says. "Proto-Kaw is a songwriter/composers' dream. We're very eclectic and very experimental but with very tight arrangements. I love the variety. We differ from Kansas in that we've integrated a jam band approach into progressive rock, and that allows for a lot of improvisation."
